For the first time in over 50 years, the Hollinger Golf Club and Spruce Needles Golf Club joined forces to welcome the inaugural edition of the Timmins Golf Championships.

The two-day better ball tournament began on Saturday at Spruce Needles before finishing up the second and final day at the Hollinger Golf Club.

With gusty winds on Saturday and cold temperatures throughout the weekend, all 118 players had their hands full as both courses presented unique scenarios and playing conditions.

In the end, it was Mike Bilodeau (Hollinger) and Jean Belliveau (Hollinger) who rose above the rest with a final score of 138 throughout both days to claim the inaugural 2022 TGC tournament.

Tournament co-chairs John Elliot (Hollinger Golf Club) and Jamie Lamothe (Spruce Needles Golf Club) were very pleased to make such a long awaited idea, come to fruition.

“I think a tournament of this nature was long overdue. Our community is fortunate to have two great golf courses, and to bring them together for a weekend of competition was a big step in the right direction. It was a great start and we are looking forward to improving and expanding the tournament next year.” said Lamothe.

While the event certainly marks a milestone amongst the Timmins golf community, there is much to take away from the weekend, including areas of improvement.

“This is the first time in over 50 years that both clubs come together. I think it goes to show just what direction the Timmins golf community is heading and that we are all pulling the same rope. With that being said, the tournament committee has identified several strong points along with areas of improvement, to ensure this tournament becomes a staple event in our community.” Added Hollinger General Manager of Golf Operations Taylor Dupuis.
